One of the hardest things about editing is admitting that some ideas, no matter how cool, just don’t have a place in your current project. Writers call this process of erasing scenes or characters “drowning your baby”. Ed and I have had to do this multiple times during the course of this project. Some ideas die hard but others seem a lot less important in retrospect. That’s the case with one NPC who seemed important throughout most of the plot point campaign, but now that we’re into pp 11 it’s become clear that most of his relevance is “off screen”. With very little trouble I can write this character out of events and shift his few scenes to another character. In the process I’ll greatly streamline the back-story and the final plot points.

As you can see, I’m still not done with PP11. I promise that’s more disappointing to me than it is to you. The good news is that almost all of the word count thus far happened last night. Yesterday morning I had a breakthrough on the sequence of events that had been holding me back, and now the words are flowing freely. I’d say there’s a pretty good chance I’ll finish PP11 tonight and be able to jump right into PP12.
