Here in the United States, this week marks the week of Thanksgiving. On Thursday we’ll take a national holiday to spend time with family and consider all of the blessings we have been given, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
In the dedication to Fire in the Hole, Jerry thanked the military officers who graduated from Texas A&M University and served in wars past, present, and future. At this time of year, it is especially appropriate to take a moment to give thanks for their sacrifices and the sacrifices of all military serving in harm’s way. They certainly have our thanks.
We at 12 to Midnight have a lot to be thankful for, and certainly the freedom to pursue happiness is among them. I am very fortunate to work with such talented, creative people in a hobby I can’t help but enjoy. I’m also thankful for you wonderful, loyal fans, who keep rewarding our hard work with your patronage. Your enjoyment of our work gives it meaning. Thank you. If you want to encourage us to keep making games, please take a moment to post your game sessions in our forums. We love hearing how you make our games your own. The other thing you can do to keep us going is write a short review–even if it’s just a paragraph or two–telling others what you thought of our work. Share your opinion with the online community of your choice, such as RPG.net, GamingReport.com, or EnWorld.org. You may not appreciate what a jolt of confidence and enthusiasm such posts give us. We appreciate and are thankful for everything from your one sentence recommendations in a forum thread up to full-length product reviews.
Speaking of things to be thankful for, all gamers, in the US and beyond, are fortunate in that we have the luxury of enjoying a leisure activity instead of worrying about where the next meal will come from or whether secret police will ever return a loved one stolen in the night. Instead, we invent horrors, pretend that they are real, then lay them aside when the night is done. Surely that is the ultimate luxury…one for which I am greatly thankful.
