AP: Chickens in the Mist at iCon 08

On Friday I ran 5 players through CitM as part of iCon '08. I've run the adventure a number of times now with the same set-up: My pregens are members of the "5 Live!" news crew who think they're on to a big scoop about an illegal cockfighting ring. The group is populated by a bunch of personalities that are at odds with each other to guarantee plenty of PvP tension: The aspiring reporter, the rugged camera man, the burnt out sound man, the nerdy intern,..... oh and the station owner's daughter. The characters are really easy for players to understand and get right into and often lead to some hilarious dialog and zanny behavior - that is where the pure excellence of the adventure is at: Shooting muntant chickens is IMHO not all that exciting but hitting them over the head with desk lamps, using couch cushions as shields, and driving a truck down a narrow, washed out road like a bat out of hell is tons of fun.

You can check out the complete session chat log (it's 40+ pages) on the FUM forums here.

Terrific. I'm glad to hear that. CitM is a great scenario for one-shot, impromptu games.

In case anyone doesn't want to head over to FUM, I've now attached the transcript here as well.

I also posted an epilogue for the players which I've included here in case anyone is interested:

Kegger Stark drove west, struggling to see through the blood-splattered, cracked windshield of the pick-up truck the 5 Live! news team had borrowed/stolen from the O'Connor farm. A great deal of chaos would occur over the next few weeks once the news footage shot by the group, as well as the pictures that followed from the Texas National Guard being called out to deal with the remaining chickens.

The group would end up selling their story to a Hollywood development company who turned the whole thing in to a blockbuster movie.

Steve McMann, the daring camera man who had shot the legendary footage would take his share of the royalties and drop out of the limelight, retreating to a backwater cabin in Kentucky where he spent the next decade hunting, fishing, and living off the land as a total recluse. He would be played by Ben Affleck in the movie.

Andrea Harcourt, the station owner's daughter, would use her fame to launch her own line of designer shoes which could also double as self-defense weapons thanks to titanium-reinforced heels. She was played by Jessica Alba in the movie.

Kegger Stark made the rounds of the talk shows and then opened a chain of brewery/donut shops across Texas. He was played by Jack Black in the movie.

Bill Moody took his share of the money and used it to finance an anti-bioengineering organization: They would go on to block the approval of genetically engineered tomatoes, corn, and kumquats. He was played by Wil Wheaton, who made a special return to acting just to take the role.

Dick Monroe, the reporter who started it all, never lived to enjoy the fame he so craved, the life crushed out of him by a 500 lb. chicken carcass. He ended up winning a NAR award posthumously. He was played by Billy Zane, who went on to win an Oscar for his performance.

That's awesome!

I'd like to reward you and your players. Choose one item of ours and it's yours. If you can get your players to shoot me an email at ewetterman@gmail.com, I'll send each one a copy of Chickens in the Mist.

Just email me and let me know what product you'd like!
