In what order should I play your Pinebox adventures?
The Beast Within is a entry-level adventure that makes a great campaign kickoff, but it won’t be difficult to ramp up the danger for higher levels too.
Last Rites of the Black Guard is a great low-level follow-up adventure.
Next, check out our series of Modern Dispatches for the d20 System (renamed Midnight Tales for Savage Worlds). Once a month (every four issues), we published a short adventure outline that could be filled out and customized into a full-length adventure. These were generally low-level adventures that can be played in pretty much any order. Our Modern Dispatches are all set in or around Pinebox.
Playing a few of those will get you to 4th level, when you can pick up Brainwashed.
At 5th level, you can pick up either Bloodlines or Skinwalker. Both are long adventures, and both award enough experience to level the party. However, both also provide insight on making the adventure more difficult for higher levels.
Our adventures are written to be dropped into any campaign, so there’s no “meta-plot”. However, we are writing a campaign book set on the campus of our fictional East Texas University. This book will take characters from college freshmen to graduating seniors. However, due to a backlog of other adventures set for 2007, the campaign book probably won’t be released until early 2008.
What supplements go well with Pinebox adventures?
For starters, Fear Effects and Green’s Guide to Ghosts. The former is a horror/sanity system, and the latter is a resource for creating ghost-related adventures. It includes a template for creating ghosts, ghost-hunting equipment, 3 adventure outlines, and almost 50 adventure seeds. If you are a d20 player, you might also find Blood and Relics and Blood and Spooks useful. Both are published by RPGObjects.
